Soybean Demonstration Field Visits in Jimma Zone<\/strong><\/p>

From August 9\u201314, 2025<\/strong>, Biosafe, together with the Jimma Zone Agriculture Office<\/strong>, CASA Project<\/strong>, and local partners, conducted field visits to evaluate soybean demonstration plots in Kersa, Omo Nada, Sokoru, Seka Chokorsa, and Limu Seka<\/strong> woredas.<\/p>

The demonstrations involved 20 model farmers<\/strong> and over 200 follower farmers<\/strong>. Each site compared two treatments:<\/p>

  1. Conventional practice<\/strong> (soybean seed + NPS fertilizer)<\/li>\n\n
  2. Improved practice<\/strong> (soybean seed + NPS fertilizer + bio-inoculant)<\/li><\/ol>

    A team of experts\u2014including woreda focal persons, agronomists, development agents, and model farmers\u2014monitored crop growth, management practices, and field performance.<\/p>

    Key findings:<\/strong><\/p>

    • Strong performance<\/strong> was observed in Kersa, Omo Nada, Sokoru, and Limu Seka<\/strong> sites, where farmers managed the plots well.<\/li>\n\n
    • In some areas (e.g., Seka Chokorsa<\/strong>), delayed planting and site selection affected growth; experts recommended applying urea and strengthening agronomic practices.<\/li>\n\n
    • A newly recruited soybean contract farming expert from SITCO<\/strong> was also introduced to the Limu Inara Farmers\u2019 Cooperative Union<\/strong>, to provide ongoing technical support and strengthen contract farming initiatives.<\/li><\/ul>
