Biosafe is proud to announce a major milestone in its journey to support sustainable agriculture in Ethiopia.
During the 2017/18 cropping season, sales of Biosafe biofertilizer for soybean increased by over 100% compared to the previous year. While national sales had not exceeded 2,500 sachets in earlier years, this season more than 7,000 sachets were distributed across the country.
This success was made possible through the strong collaboration with CASA Ethiopia. In 2017, Biosafe and CASA signed an agreement to improve biofertilizer distribution using a digital demand collection system.
To implement this system:
- 15 woredas in Jimma and Buno Bedele zones were selected.
- 17 mobile phones were provided to soil fertility leaders at zone and woreda levels for real-time demand collection and tracking.
- Training sessions were delivered to agro-dealers, youth, and woreda experts on both digital demand collection and biofertilizer application techniques.
Thanks to this coordinated effort, more farmers were able to access biofertilizer and apply it correctly, resulting in a significant boost in adoption and sales.
